Check For binding of the controls in the throttle linkage at the carburetor or throttle body (fuel injection vehicle). It is critical to have free play of the linkage in those areas. If binding is in fact noticed there,, spray some WD-40 (or equivalent) lubricant on all exposed springs and levers and recheck. Also, make sure the butterfly valve in the carb or throttle body itself IS NOT STICKING causing a binding problem resulting in stuck accelerator. If it does not move freely or sticks, a good CLEANING is necessary. This valve should be kept CLEAN at all times anyway.
try checking the gasket around the intake that should fix it
WD-40
you will need to replace the throttle cable, and while you are at it check the return spring.
I had the same problem for almost a year and damaged both engine mounts and trans mount. The fix was simple. The throttle body was gummed up and sticking. Took it apart and cleaned it with carb and throttle body cleaner and no more sticking. Smoothest pedal in a year.

This may be due to 2 reasons. One is the fact that the throttle body bore has a groove worn into it due to a worn throttle shaft bearing. This cannot be fixed as you will have to purchase and replace the throttle body. The other could be a frayed or binding accelerator cable.
