The problem is in the multi- function switch (turn signal, high beams, cruise control, windshield wipers). Switch P/N 26091771 or 26100985, the wires become brittle over time and with the use of the tilt steering moving back and forth the wire/wires break away from the switch causing headlights not to work. To repair you must remove steering wheel, housing around steering column. It's difficult to repair by reconnecting the wire/wires as the connector on the switch is permanently attached to switch. Not saying it can't be done it's just difficult. If you are handy and have knowledge of electrical wire/connector repair you should be able to fix it. The easier repair but costly one is to go and buy a new switch (which can cost up to $280.00 or more) and just replace the entire unit.
As silly as it sounds, both low beam bulbs are most likely blown. If not, check switch in the steering column.
The turn signal switch is located on the left side of the steering column just behind the steering wheel. It also controls Headlights, Hi/Lo beam and cruise control.
Pull the turn signal lever toward you. If the high beams do not come on, but the headlights work, it is most likely a problem with the high beam switch located at the base of the steering column. The switch is white in color, and has a metal rod that runs down the steering column to operate it. You can check that the metal rod is in the switches retainer, it is common for the metal rod to pop out.
Low to high beam is the lever on the steering column, if there is a problem, look there first...
it has a switch under the steering column
If the headlights on a 1997 Ford F-150 work on low beam but not on high beam, the issue could be due to a faulty high beam relay, a burned-out bulb in the high beam circuit, or a problem with the wiring or connections specific to the high beam system. Additionally, a malfunctioning switch on the steering column could prevent the high beams from activating. It's advisable to check the bulbs, fuses, and relays to diagnose the problem effectively.
The bright button on a 1999 Subaru Forester is used to activate the high beam headlights. When pressed, it switches the headlights from low beam to high beam, providing increased visibility during night driving or in low-light conditions. Typically, this button is located on the steering column or as part of the headlight control. To deactivate the high beams, simply release the button or switch back to low beam.
Probably the high beam switch in the steering column is bad.
On the top side of the steering column about halfway down, the high beam/low beam headlight switch should be bolted to the column right beside it. Inside the vehicle.
You don't. Why would you want to. You repair what is broken.
there are two switchs in the steering column meaning pull back it hits a switch to flash and when you push it forward there is another to make them stay on. sounds like you need to replace the switch should be as simple as removing the steering column cover.
The multi-function switch inside the steering column has the turn signal lever and hazard lights button extending outside of the steering column it operates - turn signals - flash to pass - high beam headlights - windshield wipers ( on/off ) and intermittent speed settings for the wipers - windshield washer fluid squirter button
