Find where the short to ground is (this will involve tracing wires) and fix it.
Possibly coming from a leaking brake cylinder. Top up fluid and take to a brake shop ASAP.
If your brake light is not coming on, you might have blown a fuse. You might also have a bulb that is no longer working.
air coming out of the brake lines... that is if its a truck. if you aply the parking brake.
If only the red brake light is coming on, the parking brake is on or the brake fluid is low. If the yellow abs light is also on, the abs computer has detected a malfunction and set a code.

Most likely, this sound is coming from a vacuum leak in your brake servo, or brake booster. Which are usually located on the firewall, the wall that divides your engine compartment and cab.

nothing it could just be the tail lights coming on.
The grinding noise is the brakes pads proably the noise is in the front. The front brake pads are easy to replace and is a do it yourself sort of thing. My guess is your brake light is coming on because of this condition. I assume your brake light has been coming on for a little while now.
If the red " BRAKE " light in your dash is coming on , then either the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder in your engine compartment is LOW or the parking brake is on
More than likely low brake fluid level in the master cylinder. Check it.
