The most likely cause is a sticking or faulty door switch. In much older cars, there is a spring loaded switch that the door makes contact with when it closes and shuts the light off. If you have a much older car, the switch may be worn out. In most cars from 1990's on, the switch is built into the door latch (this is the latch that grabs onto the metal ring that is bolted to your cars door opening. If so, it may just be sticking. Use some electronic cleaner to clean the switch and then use a lubricant to lubricate it. Note: Don't use WD-40. WD-40 is meant to be a penetrant. It will quickly get sticky and your switch will stick again. check and see of the switch in the hinge of the any of the doors have been dislodged or the wires connected to them disconnected or broken some doors have small brass buttons that have to connect there is a screw type adjustment on them as they must make contact for the light to go out if this does not work the spring inside has collapsed and the whole button must be replaced
The back hatch may be ajar.
Fix a "door ajar" on Chevy Impala 2003 . Still on doors closed.
To the right of the headlight switch is a gauge light dimmer wheel , if that has been rotated all the way up , your courtesy lights will stay on with the doors closed. If you also have a door ajar light lit up in your gauge cluster , then you may have a sticking door ajar switch , or something isn't closed properly
Possible faulty door switch.Try contact cleaner or light grade of lubricant on the switch. Push it i nby hand and see if door ajar light goes out.
door ajar means one of the cars doors are not closed all the way in ture this will keep your dome light on
If your courtesy lights are staying on with the doors closed and there is no door ajar warning light , check on your dash to the right of your headlight switch. There is a dimmer wheel switch for your guage lighting , if it has been rotated all the way up that turns on your courtesy lights when the doors are closed
The Door ajar light is not run by a specific fuse. If your 2003 Kia Spectra has a door light keep coming on, you will want to check the connections to make sure that all of the doors are completely closed.
bad door ajar switch inside one of the doors its in the striker assy
Just to the right of your headlight switch on your dash , is a gauge lighting dimmer wheel switch . Check to see if that has been rotated all the way up. If it has , that turns on the courtesy lights when the doors are closed If you also get a door ajar warning light in your gauge cluster , you probably have a sticking door ajar switch . The door ajar switches are inside the doors , on the backside of the latching mechanism .
Sticking door ajar switch ( mounted on the backside of the door latches inside the doors) or something not closed properly. To fix this, spray some WD 40 into the door latch assemblies, (all of them, including the rear hatch) and operate the doors a few times to free up the sensors.

If the door is ajar and light stays on, spray some WD40 into the latch. The door switch is probably stuck. Spray all doors then open and close a few times.
98 ford explorer xlt dash light stays off y the switch is on
Common problem, you have to spray the door lock parts in the door with WD-40 and sometimes you have to really spray for the light to go out.
You may have tried this but i have a 2000 expedition and when it sayd door ajar its usually the window part of the hatch that's open....other than that I dunno
Basically, although all other doors are shut, there is still a small draft which is coming in through the closed door, causing another to open slightly.
i literally just had the same issue with my 203 explorer, followed the advice given on numerous forums and WD-40'd the hell out of each of the latching mechanisms and it seems just fine now.my lights in lincoln navigator wont go out when I close the doors
i know it has to do with the some type of spring that is loacted in the steering wheel under the air bag. i am having the same problem with my truck. i am just trying to figure out how do you go about changing the spring? ANSWER Sounds like you have a sticking door ajar switch - they are located inside the doors mounted on the backside of the latching mechanism .
make sure ALL the doors are closed
If the door ajar light is coming on in your gauge cluster, and the warning chime is sounding when all your doors, liftgate, and glass hatch are securely shut you most likely have a sticking door ajar switch. The door ajar switches are inside the doors mounted on the latch mechanisms.
Hey Eddie==Check the light switch to make sure it is turned correctly to keep it off. If ok, check the lighter fuse, as if it blows sometimes it turns the light on. goodluckJoe If your tailgate is ajar it will also cause the light to stay on.
Just to the right of your headlight switch , on your dash , is a gauge lighting dimmer wheel switch - check to see if that has been rotated all the way up. If it has , that turns on the courtesy lights when the doors are closed
