1. Check fuse (see owner's manual) - check with multimeter and view to see if clearly burned through. If failed, replace with new; if good, return it to fuse box 2. Use multimeter to check for voltage at connector at rear window -- defroster switch should be turned-on (switch indicator light should illuminate - if it does not, you may have a faulty switch which will have to be replaced). Check each side with red lead from multimeter contacting exposed defrost power wire or soldered surface on window, and black lead grounded to the vehicle frame or body. If 12V is registered, power is being sent to the defroster, but the defrost grid has likely been broken so power will not flow through it. You can buy a kit at most auto parts stores to repair breaks in the defroster grid. 3. If no power is registered at rear window, check to see if there is a break in the power wire somewhere -- you may have to remove some trim panels to inspect the wire. One side of the defrost system is typically grounded, this is also behind the trim panel -- it is possible that with some rust or corrosion that the ground is no longer adequate and must be disconnected, cleaned, then reconnected.
