depends on whats wrong. if changing 1. disconnect battery 2.
remove serpentine belt 3. disconnect and remove alternator 4.
The voltage regulator on all Escorts is inside the alternator. It is an integral part of the alternator and the alternator has to be replaced to fix it.
remove the door panel and make sure that the rod that goes to the latch is hooked up

The lighter sometimes burns out. You need to buy a new one at any Auto Parts store. They are priced around five dollars.
If it is a mechanical problem about any mechanic or body shop should be able to fix it. If it is body damage it will need to go to a body shop.
