It's important to keep the wiper blades on a vehicle in good condition. Wiper blades can remove debris, improve visibility, and aid with snow removal during the winter. An older set of wiper blades can cause several problems: old wiper blades can leave streak marks, scratch glass, and can damage a wiper blade motor. The following guide provides simple tips to install a new set of wiper blades.Measure the existing wiper blades installed on a vehicle. It's important to measure only the rubber part of a wiper blade. Wiper blade measurements are based on the length of the blade that comes in contact with the vehicle's glass. Never install a wiper blade that is too large for a vehicle. This can put excessive strain on a wiper blade's motor.Old wiper blades are simple to remove. Lift the old wiper blades directly away from the windscreen. They should pivot on a 90 degree angle from the base of the blade. The back side of the wiper blade will have a small hinge attached by a spring. Lifting this hinge will allow the old wiper blade to be removed. Most blades will slide out of a slot after the hinge is removed.A new wiper blade should be installed the same way the old blade was removed. Slide the new wiper blade into the empty wiper blade slot. Attach the hinge assembly to the mirror using the spring latch. This will help ensure that the wiper blade can't move. Push the wiper blade back towards the vehicle, and test to make sure that it is securely in place. Never operate an improperly installed wiper blade -- this can result in wiper blade motor damage, windscreen scratches, and a damaged wiper blade assembly.Make sure to recycle old wiper blades when finished. Wiper blades are usually made from aluminum and rubber. Some auto repair shops will pay to recycle old wiper blades. This can be a great way to help the environment while saving money.
I recently changed mine. Purchase a 12" wiper blade - not a normal size - I found one at Pep Boys - the arm including the wiper blade, could not locate just a replacement blade. I recommend using a replacement blade with the metal inserts running down the sides as it make removal / installation easier. Gently push in the lock pins (on the side of the wiper blade) and lift the old wiper blade assembly away from the back window - it should tilt - do not force the arm too far. Slide the old wiper blade off the arm attachment. Take the new wiper blade and slide it into position until the lock pins (locate on the side of the blade) locking position on the wiper arm.

Most likely your wiper blade needs replacing. Before replacing however, you can check to see if the arm moves freely away from the window and if there's good pressure back towards the window. You can also see if the wiper blade moves freely on the wiper arm and that its not binding. If both of these checks seem ok, then its probably just a worn wiper blade.
