Your rear seats should not have a locking mechanism to positively hold them in the reclined or "leaned forward position. The seat part has been folded down and the back part has been unlocked via a button on the side of the seat that releases it and it has been folded down behind the seat part. Makes a nice neat fairly level surface. So to undo it you pull the front of the level surface up towards the roof (shouldnt have a button to push to release it) and then pull the seat part up and back the same way. None of these actions shouldve required hard tugging so if you have to REALLY PULL HARD to get something to happen I would wonder if you don't have a bent member in the seats hardware. I don't think you have to worry about breaking anything if you lean on it pretty hard as, again, there should be no locking mechanism to hold it down....we're talking gravity here. __________________________________ I don't mean to step on any toes here, but if I recall my 87 Cherokee had a handle on the side of the seat and sometimes that handle would get stuck and the back area of the seat would stick when putting them back up. However, if your talking about a Grand Cherokee, there is still a handle on the side, but it's a non-locking drop down and back up.
