Insert it into the drive - the computer will recognise the disk and offer you the best option to format it.
you shouldn't have to format a cd-rw just save files to it
You cannot format CD-R's in any operating system. However, you can format CD-RW's in any operating system. You can record on a CD-R only once, but you can record thousands of times on a CD-RW and format it over and over again.
Insert the RW-CD in the drive and right click on the cd drive and select the option as format disk
They can come in a few different formats. There is CD+R, CD-R, and CD+RW.
Don't think you can format CD-R's - they are manufactured and formatted ready to use. CD-RW's however can be formated, and/or re-formatted.
You could, but it's not necessary. CD RW files are simply overwritten, hence the name.
Ok this one can be tough to answer. The firm answer is "It depends". Regardless of the age of the cd rom drive the determining factor is "format". For CDs there are many, there are (without the quotes) "+R", "+RW", "-R", and "-RW". Yes the + and the - signs are there on purpose. A drive that can read/burn in +R can read +R and -R, and +RW and -RW. a drive that can read/burn in -R or -RW, can ONLY read -R and -RW. If you look at your CD, somewhere on the label (and somewhere on the player usually) it will say if it's a + or - R. So if your drive is a CD-RW +R (or +RW) it can read either format. If it's a CD-RW -R (or -RW) it can only read other disks that are -R (or -RW). The -R format has kind of fallen by the wayside because the +R is so much more 'universal'. But there are many many burners out there that write and read only -R. I hope this helps answer your questions!
Most likely, your computer is not a CD-RW burner, so it can play it, but not edit things on it. My suggestion, put it into a CD-RW burner or DVD Player with burner, then try again.
CDs can't be formatted unless they are RW(rewritable)..If you have a RW CD and a Cd writer, then you can use any software (Nero...etc) to erase all data on it ... proud_t@yahoo.com
To format a CD-RW with Windows XP, one has to install third-party CD/DVD authoring tools as the OS does not provide an inbuilt program for this. Examples of these tools are Nero and Roxio.
Unless the disc is a CD-RW you do not format a CD-R. If you format a CD-R you will make the disk unuseable. Just use a burning program and highlight all the photos you want on the disk and put them on it.
Formatting data on a CD usually refers to removing all information previously created on said CD. You sometimes format CD-RW before and after burning to assure a successful burn.
