After the USB drive has been inserted, it will be assigned a drive letter. From this point, you would open the CMD prompt and type:
FORMAT F: (enter)
Be sure to replace F: with the thumb drive's drive letter which is assigned by your operating system. If you format the wrong drive letter, you will lose all the data stored on that drive letter.

With a few tools, you can access ping and an assortment of other commands, blocking system or no. The easiest way: on a Windows PC not affected by the blocking system, go through C:\Windows and find the file called "command.com". Copy this file to a USB flash drive or similar. When on a school PC, you can run command.com to access a traditional command prompt. Use it to run ping. Easy. If the ye olde command.com prompt isn't newfangled enough for you, there's a multitude of third-party command prompts around. Try out Console2, linked below, to start with.

It would depend if E: on your computer is the flash drive or just a hard drive. If it a flash drive then you can open windows explorer and then right click on the flash drive and click format. You can do that for the hard drive too. Just remember you will lose all the data in that drive

To make your flash drive boot windows XP simply install windows to your flash drive to do this insert flash drive into USB port on PC or laptop. Insert windows operating disc and install to said drive for where you inserted the flash drive. Once the install is complete remove the flash drive and turn off PC or laptop insert flash drive and boot PC or laptop and go to your Bios and change the boot sequence to the flash drive well it worked for me
If your computer has Windows ME on it, it is NOT capable of USB booting. The DSL wiki has detailed instruction on how to make a bootable DSL flash drive. Basically, you need to: 1. Format your Flash drive with a FAT32 file system. 2. Downloaded the embedded DSL zip file and extract it to the Flash drive/ 3. Download and install the Windows version of Syslinux 4. Run the Syslinux program on your Flash drive.
