H. pylori is a bacteria, and it is contagious. Doctors aren't sure exactly how the bacteria gets transmitted from one person to another, but they recommend using good hygiene, especially washing hands before food prep and after using the toilet. Eating food that has been made in a clean place and drinking clean water is also recommended as a way of keeping bacteria (and illness of other causes) away.

You may have a test for H. pylori after you finish your treatment. In most cases, only one round (10 days) of antibiotics is needed to clear the infection but, occasionally, you might need to take more, using different drugs.

H. Pylori is a normal bacteria found in the stomach.
H. pylori is contagious, although the exact route of transmission is not known. Person-to-person transmission by either the oral-oral or fecal-oral route is most likely. The bacteria have been isolated from feces, saliva, and dental plaque of some infected people.
H. pylori may also be transmitted orally by means of fecal matter through the ingestion of waste-tainted water. This bacteria seems to have spread from East Africa around 58,000 years ago so modern humans were already infected by H. pylori before their migrations out of Africa 60,000 years ago.

People aren't sure how H. pylori, a bacteria, is transmitted, but scientists think it is along the oral/fecal route. Crowded conditions and unlcean food and water are also suspect.
