If you want to use any printer, you have to install appropriate drivers. Thus you husband has to install same drivers too.

Then, plug one end of the USB cable provided with your printer to your computer, and the other end to your printer. Also, plug in the power cord for your printer, but do not turn on your printer. Plugging in the USB cable should start a ’Add New Hardware’ Wizard, or something similar, on your computer. Follow the instructions, which should help you to select the driver, whether on the Web or already on your computer. Turn on your printer. look on the www.canon.com website under support & drivers section. you should be able to do a search for the printer model you require and select which windows version you are using and download the correct driver. plug the power and usb cables into the printer and computer and then you can run the software you downloaded. more than likely, the computer will find the printer automatically when you plug all the cables in, then you can tell the computer when it asks where you saved the download and the software will install.
