First you will need to weaken the monster the set a trap and throw tranq bomb or use tranq shot (if using bowgun)on the monster. It works best if you throw it on the head
that was my problem back when i was making my butterfly set back then. it's extremely rare those times but with patience i got what i need from my lvl 3 insect thicket and some from the bugtree with gold cat hammer. they're both inside your farm. have patience.

When it is in Armor Mode, Barrel Bombs, Clust S, Gunlance Shells and Wyvern's Fire are all worth using, as they do a set amount of damage. To get it out of rage mode, i really don't know just survive... I think it wears off, or go to a different area then come back.
