I would begin studying early. For example, if the test would be in December, I would start studying early November. Also, divide out your studying time so that you're not cramming all in a couple days and simply absorbing any type of info you can find.

Do timed practice tests, yes practice tests and not just any random questions you can find. Doing so would insure that you have some awareness of how much time you can spend on particular problems. Prep books like Princeton or even Kaplans have practice tests that you can take (you can find any of these practice books at a Barnes and Noble or Borders). Moreover, it does not have to be the latest edition in stores, but 2-4 years later than the newest edition should not be too crucial. In the end, they're all just test questions.

There are different strategies you can take when doing the SAT's. Some like to finish all the easy ones first (the first few) then do the hard ones after (the last few). However, it's generally recommended to start with easy ones first so you would have more time to approach the difficult questions. POE (process of elimination) is always be helpful in finding the answer.

The week of the test make sure you do not cram or study all night, the night before (this will only make you tired the day of the test). Briefly go over any questions you may have, and take a day off the day before so that you can relax.

The day of eat a decent breakfast (not something that will make you have a stomachache), and bring layered clothing and water. Also, other necessities that you would need like calculator, ID, pencil (erasers are always helpful), and yourself.

When you're taking the test, make sure you pay close attention to the time so that you can pace yourself accordingly. Sometimes skipping questions (1/4 of a point off) is necessary when you have no idea what the answer is. They do this so you can't simply guess on every answer. But, do not skip so much that you end up losing more points than you want.

Writing the essay. Brainstorm first, always. Doing this would help guide you on your writing so that you have a purpose and position. It does not necessarily have to be a normal five paragraph essay, but having it organized with intro, body, and conclusion would be good. One small side tip, sometimes writing more simply makes you look like you have more to say about the topic. Basically, it doesn't hurt to write more, as long as what you decide to add flows and stays on topic.

Overall, study a lot (not all in a couple days), pace yourself, and ultimately, relax! You will do well if you put time and effort in to it. Finally doing well will enable you to go to the college that you want (in most cases), because that is why we all take the SAT's right?

Is 215 a good score?

If you are talking about credit score, understand that I am not a credit expert, but since a credit score of 620 is bad, 215 would be a terrible credit score. If this is for a test like the SAT, this is also horrible. The average score of the SAT is about 500, and even that isn't that good of a score.
