Every well-trained horse knows basic dressage. Moving off leg and rein pressure and collection. You may already be doing basic dressage on your horse. Dressage is an exacting sport that takes many years to learn. What looks so pretty and effortless by top level rider/horse teams took years of hard work and training.
In order to train your horse to do dressage or any other equestrian sport you must be trained yourself. Correct riders ride correct horses. If you don't know how to train, its best to find an instructor that is knowledgable and patient.
Go slowly, in any new sport you and your horse will be using muscles that are not conditioned. And educate yourself. Read all you can about basic training, and any training DVDs you can find are always a big help. And as with anything worthwhile, you must practice. There is not substitute for hard work and hours in the saddle. I wish I could tell you there is a shortcut, but there isn't. Horse training is a long road. But its wonderful to have that special one-on-one with one of God's greatest creations, the horse.
Any horse is for dressage and can do it, it is just through the determination of the rider that will encourage the horse to do it!!
