This is a common misconception. A standard 240 utility feed, common in the US, and a 120/240 feed are one in the same, the exact same thing. It is called (historically) an Edison connection.

If you have a 240 volt single-phase supply, with two hot conductors, a neutral, and a ground wire, then you already have 120/240 service.

If you do not understand the terms above, then hire a qualified electrician to make the connection for you.

IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOB
SAFELY AND COMPETENTLY
REFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.

If you do this work yourself, always turn off the powerat the breaker box/fuse panel BEFORE you attempt to do any work AND always use a meter or voltage indicator
to insure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.

what is the cheapest electric supply cost single phase or 3 phase?

The cheapest service to construct is a single phase service. A three phase service requires more equipment and materials to complete a service.

Can a single phase supply be used in a three phase supply?

Yes. This is often done in distribution boards.

How do you know if the single line is single phase or 3 phase?

If the single line is compared to another single line and the voltage that you need is correct then you are looking as a singly phase supply. The electrical classification of single phase is that any two legs of a three phase supply can be called single phase. Look on the nameplate of the distribution panel. There it will state what the panel is, either single phase or three phase. Look at where the distribution enters the building from the utility supply. If there are three insulated conductors (red, black and blue) wrapped around a bare aluminium messenger wire it is a three phase wye connection service. If you see two black insulated conductors wrapped around a bare aluminium messenger it is a single phase service.

When would a three phase supply be preferred over a single phase supply?

Bcoz in single phase if supply is interrupt or any trouble there is no power .but in 3 phase if 1phase supply gone we can manage it by other 2 phases

Can you give single phase supply to three phase device?

No.

Which rectifier type welding machine is better single phase or three phase as far as safety is concerned?

One is just as safe as the other. The deciding factor here is what supply voltage do you have at your establishment to operate the welder a single phase or three phase service.

What is typical single phase voltage in Canada?

The standard nominal voltage in Canada for a single-phase residential supply is 240/120-V split-phase supply.

What is a Single pole electric service?

Do you mean Single Phase? This is what supplies American homes and some commercial buildings. It is 120V/240V.

How do you start a three phase motor to a single phase power supply?

You don't. A three phase motor will not start unless it is connected to a three phase supply.

Is 3 phase motor run on 1 phase supply?

No. That would be a single phase motor.

How can you connect single phase generator in three phase supply system in house lighting system?

First house lighting systems are single phase not three phase. To connect a generator to the house lighting system for emergency power, it would take an electrician to do the job properly. The biggest concern would be to isolate the rest of the service from the main distribution supply service and then isolate the rest of the distribution panel loads from the lighting loads.

Is there a difference between three phase and single phase electrical supplies?

Yes, there a difference between three phase and single phase electrical supply services.
