Once the factory installed the injectors in the motor, you can't bleed them effectively. On the older models, you could take the line loose from the injector and crink the engine until the fuel was bled out. Now you have to fill the filter with fuel and crank the engine until it bleeds itself. It can take a while and may require jumpstarting it with another vehicle. Don't crank it anymore than 10 seconds without letting it cool off for 20. The starter will get very hot and it could burn up.

Why is it hard to start your 98 dodge diesel?

Hard starting on a diesel is from a lack of fuel or a lack of heat/compression. Air in the fuel lines, plugged fuel filters, and broken electric fuel pumps are the more common hard start issues. Cummins engines use a grid type air preheater. If the hard starting is ONLY in cold weather this is a good place to start.

Does the cummins turbo diesel have glow plugs?

The Cummins 3.9L, 5.9L 12+24 valve and 6.7L do not have any glow plugs, they have a heater grid in the air intake just before the air enters the engine. after start up they use their high compression to stay running.
