Practice. Pretty much anything you do will get your knowledge of Photography up. You never really quit learning when it comes to photography. One thing you can do is get hold of one of the old books put out by Kodak (I can't remember the title) and it includes a huge amount of information on how to take pictures. Make certain your digital camera has a Manual or Programmable setting and take picture after picture after picture: if they're no good just delete them! It may help to get a pad of "Post-It" notes and write on them in Texta-colour or similar in big letters and place it in the photo so it can be read: (when written down in a notebook it is too easy to get horrible confused when a few have been deleted!) For example, it may be "200", then "400" then "800" to test the different ASA results.

Is 1800s photography better then are photography today?
I think yes. Ive been doing allot of work using film recently, medium, large and 35mm. There is so much more skill involved using film (that was used back then) Not only film but photographic paper was used, i have been using homemade pinhole cameras. I develop all the film my self, its great fun. So yes, i believe the photography is better, mainly based on the skill but i think that it looks more unique, better then digital photography of today.
