Other than keeping it in good order...tuned up, air filters, etc there's not a lot you can do. You can run a cat back exhaust system....but it would take a long time to pay for the cost of it in what you would save in fuel.
The Expedition weighs in at about 5400 lbs. Contrary to popular belief, a smaller engine is not always better. The Expedition was available with the 4.6 and the 5.4. The problem with a vehicle this size running a 4.6 is that the engine is always working harder. Any fuel mileage you may see because of it being a smaller engine is lost on a vehicle this size due to the work it has to do to get the engine up to speed, pull hills, or fight wind.
