They don't fall off if they were closed satisfactory by either you or the creditor. If they are negative they typically fall off around 7-10 years. There is not a way to get them taken off outside of these guidelines unless you feel that they are fraudulent accounts, in which case you need to contact the credit reporting agencies...

How long is something listed on a credit report?

I've seen accounts listed for years. A bankruptcy will stay on for 10 years. If you have an account that is paid and closed and you want it off of your report you can dispute it with the major credit reporting agencies.

What should you do to get paid collections off your credit report?

If the account is legitimately yours, then you cannot legally have it removed from your credit report. However, if you paid the collection account off, it should be reported as paid on your credit report. Still, the accounts will not be removed from your credit report for 7 years.

What can you do if your credit report shows active accounts that you thought were charged off?

Why would you want to do anything? Having active accounts, instead of charged off accounts is a positive reflection of your past credit history and is probably causing you to have a credit score. This is a good thing, certainly much better than having charge offs, even paid charge offs showing. Your credit report is a history of how you have managed debt over the past 7 to 10 years. Accounts that were active during that period of time, whether open, closed, active or delinquent, are SUPPOSED to show on your credit report. Having them removed would certainly decrease your current credit score.

Will your score go up if two charge off accounts get dropped off your credit report?

Yes. Anytime derogatory info falls off your report your score will improve.

What is a Charge-off in a credit report?

A charged off account is similar to a collection on your credit report. The creditor has written off the debt owed and closed the account. The debt is still valid though and can be collected on. The charge off will lower your credit score unless removed. You can dispute a charge off and this give the credit bureaus 30 days to verify the charge off or it must be removed from your credit report.

How can I find a list of accounts that were sent to collections that were paid off or are not on my credit report anymore?

How can you get your name off the credit report if your ex let the joint credit card get charged off and the truck was repossessed?

The divorce is of no consequence. If your spouse and their ex opened joint accounts while they were married, they are jointly liable for those accounts and both credit reports will reflect the history. A divorce never supercedes any other contract. You mentioned that the accounts were "both in other spouses name". If that were true, the accounts would not be on your spouse's credit report in the first place.
