The white board markers are very easy to confuse with the non marking smart board markers. When trying to get a dry erase marker off a dry erase board the best thing to use is glass cleaner. I use it all the time when cleaning mine. Its the same as taking the marker off the overhead projector.

Dry erase markers are made specifically for use on whiteboards. The ink in them has a somewhat flaky finish, so the markings wipe away easily with a dry eraser, much like chalk does. The fumes that come from dry erase markers are not harmful. The markers do smell very bad but they will not hurt you in no way.
