Well, you can't technically make them APPEAR, but you can dig them up. When you see a star on the ground, there is a good chance it is a fossil. But, it could also be a pitfall seed or one of those noisemakers.

∙ 14y agoOn a random day in town, a crease in the ground that looks like an X should appear. These creases stay in town, so they won't go away. Take out your shovel and dig on the X and you could either find a Gyroid or a Fossil. It is just plain luck to find a fossil instead of a gyroid, so keep digging.
