By default, you will receive a pistol when you spawn in a map. To purchase additional weapons, press the "b" key (which is the default settings) to bring up the buy menu.

Generally, it all depends on the amount of available money to purchase desired weapons. For example, the AWP costs $4750 in-game and is considered to be the most used sniper rifle. Meanwhile, the MAC-10 costs between $1200 and $1400 but has bad accuracy and is rarely used by players.

If you cannot afford any of the weapons in the buy menu, scavenging primary weapons is another method.
