Usually the quests alone does the job unless you have negative rep beforehand. If you have convinced Mc namera to lift the lockdown then by then you should have idolized. Additional things you can do to better you standing is talk with veronica at the 188 trading post by boulder city. Do her companion quest and this should net you some brotherhood fame depending on how it goes. Also give her some fancy attire, she will teach you a special unarmed move.
You can't become idolized by the Brotherhood unless you have the Lonesome Road DLC add on. Its just one of those things.

Because you said "idolized" I'm assuming that you mean Fallout: New Vegas. If you get into the underground bunker of their's in hidden valley (can be done different ways), you should ask around. Talk to a few people and I'm sure you can find something to do for them that will make them like you and the more you do, the bigger assignments they give you, the more caps and the more they like you :)
