I was in this position too. But then, luckily, I found not one, but two ways. Now, the first way is slow. Basically you just build a whole bunch of stuff and, slowly but surely, you develop mechanical skills. The second way, and, in my opinion, the better way, is to spawn the cheat gnome ( Wii code: ( and press quickly!) B, Z, up arrow, down arrow, B) and then type (again, press quickly!) 2, Up arrow, Right arrow, Z, right arrow. Then pull up the options for the gnome, select add one to skill, Mechanical, and walla! Your Sim has one more Mechanical skill little bar thingy! You can repeat this for all your Sims' skills! To get more bars, just click it multiple times! Best of luck to you and your Sims! Maximum128

A good way to increase your mechanical skills is to build simple objects like tools for example.
