You have to Import the media into Windows Movie Maker. Use the Import Media button on the top menu of the program. Locate the video/movie, click import. It should show up in the Imported Media viewing pane.
Please make sure the video you are trying to import is compatible with Windows Movie Maker:
.asf, .avi, dvr-ms, .m1v, .mp2, .mp2v, .mpe, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .wm, .wmv
