You may have to tell him just that but do it when he is alone as there is nothing worse than being let down in front of your mates. Just be firm but nice, straight to the point is the best way then don't answer his calls etc and he will get the point eventually.
..... just tell him straight up that you do not want to go out with him
Just tell him that your really really sorry but you think it wont work out, or you already have your eyes on another guy, or even just say no.
