to conquer the fear of heights you must reconize that you have that fear. after that you have to start out small with facing your fear. like a ferris wheel or something. than you take the next step. maybe trying parasailing over the ocean, or if your not ready for that try standing on the balcony of a skyscraper. after you feel you've conquered these three steps. try the ultimate fear facing challenge, go bungee jumping or try the doing something which faces you with heights. also remember this...if you are dealthy afraid of heights and you do something like parasailing, try thinking "what's the worse that can happen" or "thousands of people have done this before me...im gonna be alright" ~hope i helped!!!
First of all, there are some things you should be afraid of -- drunken drivers, forest fires, etc. Fear is a normal human emotion intended to protect us from harm. And sometimes we develop a fear because of a past experience -- getting a "shot" at the doctor's office, for example. Sometimes, we're so afraid of something we're even afraid to figure out why.
So the first thing is to figure out exactly what we're afraid of. For example, if I were "afraid of dogs," I'd want to answer a few questions: what kind of dogs? ( Dogs with spots? furry dogs?) what are they doing? (Am I afraid of a sleeping dog? The sound of barking?) Sometimes we develop fears as kids and carry them with us into adult life -- when you were 6, a shot at the doctor's office hurt a lot more than it does when you're an adult (or at least the fear makes it seem to hurt more than it really does). The clearer your understanding of what the fear is, the easier it will be do deal with.
The next step is to "sneak up" on the fear. How close can you get to that dog before you feel yourself panicking? Remind yourself that you can always back away. When you reach the "I'm gonna lose it!" point, just stop and live with the fear for a while -- count to ten, perhaps. Try to wait until your heart rate slows and your breathing is normal, then move away. Try to move a little bit closer each time.
Don't be ashamed of your fear, even if it seems irrational: if you're afraid of Chocolate Chip Cookies, the fear is just as powerful as a fear of forest fires. It may help to talk to a mental health professional or a counselor. Sometimes, discovering where the fear came from can help. (Maybe you were badly burned as a child, reaching for a chocolate chip cookie in the oven.) A counselor can help you figure this out. And every time you take a successful step in managing your fear, (like asking a question about it) congratulate yourself!
