How do you get rid of the big rock on your farm in harvest moon island of happiness?

You have to upgraded it with either the Bronze, Silver, Gold or Mystrile ore which can be found in the 2nd and 3rd mines.

Not sure which ore it is you need but I personally would try the silver ore.

To get rid of big rocks you have to go to the mine at 10am and Carter will ask you to break open a mine. When you finish that mine you open a new one by simply doing the same.

You will find a blue triangly stone called Mystrile. You then ring up Saibara the Blacksmith and upgrade your hammer. Then you wait 4 days and he returns it. You can then break the big rocks. The same with the tree stumps except you upgrade the axe.

you must equip a yellow wonderful on your hammer, then enter chen's shop to unlock the event. then, you will have rice paddies!

Equip a Yellow Wonderful on to you axe, stand near the stump, charge the axe (until it sparkles once) and cut it down.

Just equip your hammer/axe with a yellow wonderful and keep charge-hitting it until it breaks. pretty simple if you ask me...
