Try one of those Mr. Clean magic eraser sponges. Just dip it in the pool water and wipe everything down. I used it on my pool steps and they look like new. It is very non-abrasive. Let me know what you think.
The brown to yellowish stains can re removed with acid.
The most common way to remove stains from plaster pools is to drain and acid wash the pool. Acid washing removes a very very thin layer of plaster from the pool, so it can only be a finite number of times of the life of the pool before you need to replaster. I highly recommend contacting a professional pool service provider experienced in acid washing, as there are some risks involved. Depending upon how deep the stain has penetrated the plaster, you can realistically expect the stains to, at the least, fade and at absolute best, disappear. Please note that NO reputable, honest service provider should GUARANTEE that they can completely remove all stains, as there is no way to tell how deep it has penetrated. An honest service provider will most likely have you sign a disclosure outlining the risks associated with acid washing as well as what you should and shouldn't expect when the job is done. Most reputable service providers will probably ask for payment in full, in advance, along with the signed Disclosure. This is because the service provider cannot (and should not) guarantee you that all stains will disappear completely, regardless of the quality of the provider's work. (If some stains remain and the customer is less than satisfied, the provider will not want to have to justify his fee in order to get paid and certainly will not want to get stiffed) Please note, however, that there are other benefits to an acid wash beside increased aesthetic appeal. Minerals and dirt build up in the plaster and are removed during an acid wash, making for better water chemistry and increased plaster life expectancy. Left untreated, these deposits can eventually displace the plaster's surface causing it to "pit".
The only stains that we ever incurred, were from alage, even when pools were opened the only stains that were found were just alage of different colors. if your pool is open all you should have to use is a soft scrubbing brush and the stains should come right off, Sometimes we would scrub the sides of the pools down because of alage on the walls, once again a soft scrubbing brush should make your liner look new again. "one note" if your pool is up and running and your chlorine level is normal to high that is good enough for a cleaning agent. *** My chlorine levels were good, water was balanced, no algae, but I had yellow stains on the vinyl on the bottom of my inground pool that could not brush away. Poured granular PH Decreaser into an old white cotton sock, tied it closed, dropped the filled sock in the water over the stains and used my pool brush to rub the stain with the sock. It worked wonderfully to make the stains disappear. It was easy.
buy a large bottle of vitamin C tablets. crush them into a very fine powder. Turn off your pool filter so the water is still and sprinkle the vitamin C powder on to your steps so they sink down onto the steps. The steps will instantly turn white
Try hiring a high pressure spray cleaner
A lot of scrubbing and some chlorine
Best way to clean off dirt and stains is by pressure washing. Use a pressure washer surface cleaner from best car gurus to clean your pool times faster than the usual spray nozzles. Β Β It spreads the water pressure using twin rotating outlets allowing you to get an even clean for large areas like your pool
The yellow stains are most likely algae. Superchlorinate and lots of brushing until it is gone. Then brush again. You may want to clean the filter too.
If you use a brillo pad or something similar to clean the steps, tiny metal fibers fall into the water and create rust stains. Water contains metals - if the PH is not correct in your pool, the metals can rust. The most likely place to attach is the steps as the are usually flat and have the least water movement when the pool / spa is not in use. There are a myriad of products out there to correct this problem...most can be found at any pool supply store - usually call metal remover....imagine that
