Remove the screw behind the seat that goes into the top of the rear fender. Lift the rear of the seat and pull straight back, away from the fuel tank. If there is a passenger grab strap, you can pull the seat through the strap or remove the strap.

Its a Torx or star bit and readily available from any hardware/motoring store. Its like an Allen wrench but with points on the corners.
