Just like in every other Pokemon game, the most common way of catching a Shiny Pokemon is by luck. However, in Pokemon Diamond, Pokemon Pearl, and Pokemon Platinum, you can use the Poke Radar, which, by chaining Pokemon, you are able to catch shiny Pokemon much more easily. If you don't fancy either of these, you can trade friends, use the wifi, or use an action replay to get a Shiny Pokemon.
