The simple answer to increasing strength while losing weight is making changes in your diet and working out a bit. But sit down and think about what you wish to accomplish, and then work out how you're going to do it. (Get help!) With a bit of a plan (that's a smart plan, not pie in the sky) and some support in place (particularly a diet and workout partner), go for it.
