You can use a product called "Goof Off" that can be found in hardware departments or home fix-it stores. It contains a chemical xylene that helps dissolve glues. Your other option is to use a piece of tape, like Duct Tape or masking tape, and by repeatedly sticking the tape and removing it from the sticky spot it'll pull up the residue.
You pull it off and remove the residue with Goof Off.

If you mean sellotape (scotch-tape), I've done it by rubbing hard with lavender-oil and cleaning the residue off with a wet-wipe or baby-wipe.
WD-40 work great
Try Goo Gone first, it's quite benign and will often move glue and leave no marks on fabrics and leather. Goof Off is stronger and will remove more sticky glues, but may leave a mark. Test it first on a piece that's not normally visible.

Duct tape will leave behind a sticky, gummy residue that embeds into the carpet fibers. To get rid of the residue, scrap as much as possible with a butter knife. Place a damp cloth on the spot and rub a warm iron on it. Use a goo remover on the remaining residue.

One way to get surgical tape off the skin rubbing alcohol can be used to remove the sticky residue. The use of an exfoliator can also remove surgical tape residue from the skin.
You take a sharp razor and scratch off the left over tape residue. works everytime, and leaves nothing behind.
Tape is pretty much plastic with some glue on it. Its the glue that sticks to the item you're taping, so when you take that tape off, the glue will normally stay.
Try freezing the wax on the shoe so that it can be scraped off. You may have oily residue left. Use denatured alcohol to blot off the remaining wax and oil. Use a leather cleaning product to restore moisture to the leather.
