I have a 54 Mondeo and the fusebox is behind the glove box on the passenger side. Open glove box, remove clip. Inside top left pull in sides of glovebox as you lower and pull out glove box you will then see fuses but unless you have hands the size of a 5 year old you will have trouble. Also I put a 30 amp fuse in as the 15 amp recommended kept blowing every couple of months which is pretty common apparently.

If the cigarette lighter is not working and the ACC fuse, inside the car, left of steering wheel, is still good (radio is working), the "fuse" on the back side of the cigarette lighter socket, a brown wire, has blown. Socket needs to be replaced or fixed with a soldering iron and a new wire.

I'm not sure exactly what it is or what is a definite answer for why it would burn out. But one reason was given. It said if you take the lighter out before it pops up, that it would cause the heating mechanism to burn out faster.
