The differentials should have small metal tags with ID numbers stamped into them bolted to the diff cover. Type those numbers into Google and you should get a hit on your axle ID. I don't know Dana numbers offhand, but if the rear has an "88" stamped in the tag it's an 8.8. The tag will also give you the gear ratio and tell you if is open or has a trac loc.
4t65e with 2.86 gear ratio and 4RDB,3RDB ON ID. TAG.2003-2004 monte carlo, impala with 3.4 engine.
You can refer to your user manual to ID the rear end gear ration in 80 Chevy pickup.
This page shall answer your question. Multiply the ratio of the gear (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc) vs the differential and that will give you the total gear ratio. http://www.off-road.com/trucks4x4/article/articleDetail.jsp?id=277696
the only way i fount that was take id number to Chevy dealer and they give you a print out of every thing that came on your vehicle.including differental gear ratio.
At Petco you can make your own cat or dog ID tag. They have a machine that does it. You put your money in the machine, and type in what you want the ID tag to say. It embosses the words onto a metal tag, and then dispenses the tag.
The id tag is located on the top of the bell housing on the drivers side. It is a white tag and is 10 digits
we can tag pics
Need to remove the rear end plate. Then count the teeth that is on the ring gear ( big gear ) and write it down. Now look up inside of the housing and you will see another smaller gear that runs in the big gear, That will be the pinion gear, count those teeth now. Now take this # and devide it into the first # you wrote down and this will be the gear ratio. You will have to jack it up and take it out of gear, so you can turn the gears to be able to count them.
The ID is 811
