Once you enter the dungeon with the secret McM stairway (with the Library Slip from the Museum), pull the switch, and get the cheese, you cannot get in that way anymore. The guards will not let you in. You can return to the dungeon through the tunnel from Mordred's underground lab. The guards will NOT block the entrance until you have the cheese and throw the switch. In Mordred's Laboratory, push down the dirt wall to enter the tunnel that leads to the back of the dungeon cell. When you entered the dungeon through the library, throwing the switch opened the small back gate. You can enter the cell. But to get the green fuel rod, you will need to feed the mouse to Merlin, the mechanical owl. (Click Merlin and then the fuel rod)

You can't get past the guards. Once you have retrieved the cheese and thrown the switch, you cannot enter through the library again. To return to the dungeon, you have to go through the back way, which connects to Mordred's underground laboratory. (see the related question)

u were supposed to get the moldy cheese! if u didnt and went back up, and they are guards there and they wont let u down, u a goner. might as well dont save and start all over. the was moldy cheese down there! didnt u see the thing that sort of look like a sponge? I dont think that right bcuz i got the moldy cheeze and they wont let me back in either First you get the moldy piece of cheese then give it to the robotic mouse and release where the guards are. and the mouse is at the bottom left door of the castle! DUHHHHHHHH all you have to do is you dont have to start over!! feed the robot mouse to the robot owl and it will befriend you then go in the tunnel hidden by the hay bales and go in the hole. click on the owl and click on the item and the owl will retrieve it!!! i hope this helped
