If it's an overhead valve engine that has the cam under the intake and not in the heads then you need to remove the intake manifold and the valve covers. Then remove the rocker arms and push rods. Use a valve lifter removal tool to make this job easier. The parts stores like Autozone usually have a loaner you can use for that.
I do recommend using a Rust/Varnish remover type spray to soak down the lifter bores BEFORE attempting to remove the lifters to make it much easier. Good Luck!
The 4.9L ford straight six engine does not have adjustable lifters.
remove lifters from a 1999 ford f150
No to the roller lifters in the 2.8 Ford V6. The 2.8 as well as the 2.9 has regular flat tappet lifters and regular rocker arms.
Hydraulic.
The 2.8 v6 produced up to around 1985 had solid lifters with adjustable rocker arms.
no, u need to remove the heads to get at the lifters
put the lifters up rite in a can of motor oil and let them sit for 30 mins
no.
I think you will find that the lifters are hydraulic which means they are non adjustable. They either need replacing or the rockers need replacing.
The valve covers and rocker arms need to be removed as well as the intake manifold. Then remove the push rods to gain access to the lifters.
Parts that old replace them with new ones.
