You first have to trade your old saddle from Rock ridge for a gold pan. Find gold, and trade the pan for the oil. Go back to the gear area and oil them.
When ACTUALLY oiling them, Clean every gear in the middle row. This will probably use almost all your oil. But as long as it works, the clock will work.
The middle gears is the big clump of gears from the big shiny silver gear to the other big shiny silver gear. and to ACTUALLY oil them you have to oil it until it gleams. if this doesn't help i suggest looking at the walk-through for cheats.

∙ 12y agoA woman gives you an old saddle for bringing her 5 prized cattle to her ranch and going back and telling her. Then you go to the trading post in Dusty Gulch and trade the gold pan (that you also got from trading) for the oil can. Then you use the oil on the gears inside the clock. GOOD LUCK :)

∙ 12y agoAfter you help the lady at rock ridge, she gives you a saddle. then go to dusty gulch(where you started) and go to the trade building. Trade the saddle for the gold pan and when you beat the guy at the casino on dos cactos and get the map where you get gold, go there and pan for gold. When you get a gold nugget, go to dusty gulch again and trade back the gold pan for the oil can. Use the gold nugget to buy potions from the magician guy who will give you every potion.

∙ 12y agoYou go to Dusty Gulch trading post and trade the gold pan that you get after trading in the old saddle you get after catching the calf for the cowgirl in Rocky Ridge. If you don't get what I am saying, then when you catch the calf for the girl in Rocky Ridge you trade the saddle for a gold pan. Then you're supposed to have a map to the GOLD CLAIM. You then go pan for gold til you get a gold nugget. Then go to Rocky Ridge and pay the medicene seller so he gives you one of everything. After that trade back the gold pan for the oil can. So then you can go to Diamond Plains, climb inside of the clock tower, cjump over obstecles, and oil the gears.
