These sliding doors are notorious for having sliders that wear out allowing the door to misalign when closing. This misalignment causes the latch at the rear of the door to overshoot the pin that it's supposed to hit and it jams over the top of the pin rather than latching to it. The latch also engages preventing further attemps to close the door as well. First use a screwdriver to unlatch the mechanism by holding the door handle open and prying the latch open again, then instead of sliding the door closed in the usual fashion using the handle, slowly slide the door forward until it is 90% closed and with your hand on the rear of the door (next to the glass and about 1 foot above the latch area) slam the door closed perpendicular to the van by pushing the back of the door toward the middle seats very hard.

How do I fix a 2004 Chrysler town country sliding door does not open automatically?

i am currently repairing mine as we speak,in the lower door opening where the track can be seen, inside this track is the wiring harness that commonly breaks the black power wire that powers the door motor.you can solder/repair it but i would recommend replacing this short harness as the wires become brittle after several hundred opening cycles and will just break elsewhere.the Chrysler part number for the passenger side is #04868122AE. took me about half an hour to change.good luck
