How do you get the spare tire off of a ford econoline 150 van?

You will have to open the second door in the back of the van. Once it is open you will see a small wing nut, unscrew it and pull the piece of metal it was holding out (doing so will unblock a small round hole right above the bumper. Open the side panel that holds the jack and its turning rod remove the rod and stick it in the hole slowly turn until you feel it fall into place. now turn the rod clockwise this will lower the tire. when the tire is on the ground keep turning until you get enough slack to remove the bar holding the tire in place.
Actually, on my '97 Econoline, the rod has to be turned COUNTER-clockwise to lower the tire, and obviously, clockwise to raise it.
My '95 Econoline has no wing nut/metal plate. Instead a black rubber plug, matching what is there on the door frame rim, covers the hole.
