No. The kindle paperwhite does not run the Android OS. Therefore, you cannot download Android apps to the kindle paperwhite.
The Kindle fire is more of a tablet-like eReader. Therefore, the Kindle Fire has apps that the Paperwhite doesn't. Also, the Kindle Fire has a colored screen, while the Paperwhite is purely monochrome. Also, the way things are viewed on a Paperwhite is different. The Paperwhite operates on a different style of form of pixilation Amazon calls E-ink, which may take a second longer to view, but is more crisp than the Fire at times. However, the paperwhite in this respect, has a problem where it can't be read in the dark since it's not backlit.
The Kindle Paperwhite Ereader 1st is the first Kindle Paperwhite Ereader available to the public. Each next generation has added features and may be slightly different, but are essentially the same thing.
