in lanayru desert, you save an ancient robot and in thanks it will upgrade your beetle so it can hold and drop bombs. you can also go to the scrap shop in the bazaar in skyloft to upgrade your beetle so its faster and can withstand hitting surfaces better.

Ask Fi, she was programed in her text to always help you. If I EVER had a problem I asked Fi then I got one of those "Oh right..." moments or "OHHH Now I get it." just use the down button and ask her objective and you will know.
