Ok, first go to your storage room that could be found on the top of the screen or neohome. Then at the storage room, put the number of the items you want to remove and at the bottom you'll see the remove sign then click on it. (if you placed a pin for the storage room, enter it).

Click the number that represents your NP, you should automatically go there once you click it.

Any items you want to keep, but don't have room for (or that you don't want) in your inventory can go there for safekeeping.

If you have food in your inventory, you can click it and a menu of options will open up in a new window. From there you have several options, including feeding the item to any of your neopets.
