If you were getting engaged then you must have trusted him at one time, but, you are not mature enough to marry him because you obviously don't trust him and feel his sole attention should be on you. Marriage is a serious union of two people and it takes a lot of work by both parties involved. With the way he works he will be gone long periods of time so your relationship with him will have to be based on trust and you will have to fill in the void of his being away for stretches of time. He doesn't want to have to put up with your immature antics while he's trying to concentrate on work.
