When in sleep mode the computer should come back on when you move the mose or hit any key on the keyboad. If noting happen then the computer has failed to go into sleep mode properly (MS windows seems to do this) and the only option is to power it of and re-boot.

If it's a Windows PC, press the power button as if turning it on. It should then say 'resuming Windows' (or something to the effect of) and then go to the logon screen and the login as usual, and it will take you to where you last left it.

Hibernation in windows means that it saves the current computer state (open apps etc) and then saves it to a cache on your hard drive. Then it turns the computer off completely. So you would just turn it back on as normal with the power button. But instead of it saying starting windows, it will say resuming windows.

You should just be able to log on as usual, but everything you were doing before you hibernated your computer should be back exactly the way it was

You can either press the power button, or if the lid is closed, you can open it, or if it's opened, you can close it and open it. That will get your laptop back on from Hibernate mode.

Depending on your computer, pushing the 'Wake' key on the upper right of the keyboard should do the trick. If not, you may need to reboot.

How do you make your computer come straight on?

You can put your computer in Hibernate mode. This will save your last session and resume from where you last left off. Waking a computer from hibernation takes half the time as turning it on from shutting down. However, you need to shut your computer down properly every now and again, to prevent damage. You can also put your computer into Sleep mode. It will come on as soon as someone touches it. However Sleep mode does not turn your PC off - so you are still paying for electricity if you put it in Sleep mode.
