My best answer would be when you go to bed, your cat goes too. Well, that's what I do, and it works pretty good. Set her (or him) in the little mini-bed or wherever he or she is sleeping every night. Try to get the cat used to it and then they will be more than willing to go there to sleep. I would also suggest putting a blanket in with them to help increase comfort which helps them get used to it.

∙ 12y agoWhat I would say to do is bring the cat up on to your bed, then just keep peting the cat until they go to sleep, and once they go to sleep then you have your cat sleeping with you on your bed. But this might not work if you turn around alot in your sleep

∙ 12y agoI used to have the exact same problem (and still do sometimes), except it's two cats, and both of them wanted to sleep on top of me at the same time. About a year or two ago, seemingly out of the blue, they apparently came to a mutual decision to begin sleeping on top of me. It's taken one to two years of constantly pushing them off to get them to give up on the idea, and they still try sometimes.
I've reached a compromise that seems to suit both of them. I'll let the female sleep between my feet and lower legs (so she's actually sleeping on the bed, between my shins/calves), and I'll let the male sit right next to me and rest his front legs on me.
The female cat is a lot more persistent than the male one, and she still sometimes attempts to sleep on my stomach, back or upper thighs/butt. Before, she would get on me again in the exact same spot, no matter how many times I pushed her off. But now, every time I push her off, she tries again at a lower spot. So it goes like this: she tries sitting on my stomach or back. I push her off. She tries again, this time moving down to my butt and upper thighs. I push her off again. She tries again, this time somewhere around my knees. I push her off again, and finally she resigns herself to sitting between my lower legs (somewhere between my knees and ankles).
She's learned by now that I don't want her sleeping anywhere on me, except in the space between my lower legs. But she still tries to sleep on my stomach, back or upper thighs/butt, apparently just to see if she can get away with it.
If you don't want to spend years teaching your cat what is an appropriate spot to sit, then I would suggest you buy a heated cat bed or a heated blanket. The cat probably wants to sleep on you because you are warm. For the same reason, they enjoy sitting on radiators, computer towers, sunny windowsills, and stoves (when the oven's on).
Put the heated blanket or cat bed at the end of the bed (where your feet are). This should encourage the cat to sleep on the bed at your feet, rather than on top of you. Or, you can fold the blanket up and put it by your head, or next to your torso, depending on where the cat prefers to sleep. For example, my male cat prefers sleeping by my head, while the female prefers sleeping by my feet.
If your cat really refuses to sleep anywhere but on you, then it may take a little trial-and-error before you figure out whether she'd rather sleep by your head, feet or somewhere in the middle.
Another thing you can try doing is sleeping on your side. The cat can't really sit on you unless you're lying flat on your back or stomach. If you're lying on your side, the best she can do is rest her front legs on you. This is what I do whenever the cats decide to renew their campaign to use me as a self-heating sofa.
