How I got my parents to get me a rat is I researched them for about 2 months and "thought about it" which is what your parents want you to do. Mostly, the worry is that you will lose interest in your furry friend after a month or so. If you can spend a whole month just researching, your parents will probably be impressed and let you get one. Another thing to do is to start with smaller pets like fish or hamsters before you move up to a rat. This way, your parents will already know what to expect out of the rat and your cleaning habits.
