For safety, m/c gearboxes are designed that once in gear, a full lift or press of the shifter will always find a gear. You should not easily be able to find neutral with the bike in motion. Pressing pedal fully down from second will select first and if you try to press the pedal down again it won't go. With the m/c stationary and clutch fully in, a half lift of the pedal should find neutral. If difficulty finding neutral you will drop back into second. Let out the clutch to the bite point and 'blip' (short rev) the engine. Pull the clutch in, blip the engine again, and immediately half press on gear shifter you should find neutral. BE GENTLE on the pedal

Neutral is between 1st and 2nd so if you didn't shift all the way into 2nd then it would go into neutral. To get into neutral on most one down 4,5,6 up bikes you have to barely raise on the shifter until you feel it pop into neutral anything more then that barely lifting will cause it to go into second gear.
