Why did Nicola colour deeply under his sunburn and then grew pale?

Nicola likely colored deeply under his sunburn due to increased blood flow to the skin as a response to the irritation and damage caused by the sun. This reaction can lead to a temporary reddening of the skin. Once the initial inflammation subsides, he may have appeared pale as the skin begins to heal and the blood flow normalizes, reducing the redness associated with the sunburn.
